हिरण्यगर्भ सूक्तम् - Hiraṇyagarbha Sūktam

 

Rig Veda 10.121.1

हि॒र॒ण्य॒ग॒र्भः सम॑वर्त॒ताग्रे॑ भू॒तस्य॑ जा॒तः पति॒रेक॑ आसीत् । स दा॑धार पृथि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमां कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
hiraṇyagarbhaḥ sam avartatāgre bhūtasya jātaḥ patir eka āsīt | sa dādhāra pṛthivīṃ dyām utemāṃ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

హి॒ర॒ణ్య॒గ॒ర్భః సమ॑వర్త॒తాగ్రే॑ భూ॒తస్య॑ జా॒తః పతి॒రేక॑ ఆసీత్ ।

స దా॑ధార పృథి॒వీం ద్యాము॒తేమాం కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“BRAHMAN, the imperishable matter,  was present at the beginning; when born, he was the sole lord of created beings; he upheld this earth and heaven-- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.2

य आ॑त्म॒दा ब॑ल॒दा यस्य॒ विश्व॑ उ॒पास॑ते प्र॒शिषं॒ यस्य॑ दे॒वाः । यस्य॑ छा॒यामृतं॒ यस्य॑ मृ॒त्युः कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
ya ātmadā baladā yasya viśva upāsate praśiṣaṃ yasya devāḥ | yasya chāyāmṛtaṃ yasya mṛtyuḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

య ఆ॑త్మ॒దా బ॑ల॒దా యస్య॒ విశ్వ॑ ఉ॒పాస॑తే ప్ర॒శిషం॒ యస్య॑ దే॒వాః ।

యస్య॑ ఛా॒యామృతం॒ యస్య॑ మృ॒త్యుః కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“(To him) who is the giver of soul, the giver of strength, whose commands all (beings), even the gods obey, whose shadow is Deathlessness, whose (shadow) is Death-- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.3

यः प्रा॑ण॒तो नि॑मिष॒तो म॑हि॒त्वैक॒ इद्राजा॒ जग॑तो ब॒भूव॑ । य ईशे॑ अ॒स्य द्वि॒पद॒श्चतु॑ष्पद॒: कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
yaḥ prāṇato nimiṣato mahitvaika id rājā jagato babhūva | ya īśe asya dvipadaś catuṣpadaḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

యః ప్రా॑ణ॒తో ని॑మిష॒తో మ॑హి॒త్వైక॒ ఇద్రాజా॒ జగ॑తో బ॒భూవ॑ ।

య ఈశే॑ అ॒స్య ద్వి॒పద॒శ్చతు॑ష్పద॒: కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

 

English translation:

“(To him) who, by his greatness, has verily become the sole king of all that lives and breathes, who rules over this aggregate of two-footed and four- footed beings -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.4

यस्ये॒मे हि॒मव॑न्तो महि॒त्वा यस्य॑ समु॒द्रं र॒सया॑ स॒हाहुः । यस्ये॒माः प्र॒दिशो॒ यस्य॑ बा॒हू कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
yasyeme himavanto mahitvā yasya samudraṃ rasayā sahāhuḥ | yasyemāḥ pradiśo yasya bāhū kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

యస్యే॒మే హి॒మవ॑న్తో మహి॒త్వా యస్య॑ సము॒ద్రం ర॒సయా॑ స॒హాహుః ।

యస్యే॒మాః ప్ర॒దిశో॒ యస్య॑ బా॒హూ కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“Through whose greatness these snow-clad (mountains exist), whose property men call the ocean with the rivers, whose are all these spaces, extended as his arms -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.5

येन॒ द्यौरु॒ग्रा पृ॑थि॒वी च॑ दृ॒ळ्हा येन॒ स्व॑ स्तभि॒तं येन॒ नाक॑: । यो अ॒न्तरि॑क्षे॒ रज॑सो वि॒मान॒: कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
yena dyaur ugrā pṛthivī ca dṛḻhā yena sva stabhitaṃ yena nākaḥ | yo antarikṣe rajaso vimānaḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

యేన॒ ద్యౌరు॒గ్రా పృ॑థి॒వీ చ॑ దృ॒ళ్హా యేన॒ స్వ॑ స్తభి॒తం యేన॒ నాక॑: ।

యో అ॒న్తరి॑క్షే॒ రజ॑సో వి॒మాన॒: కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“By whom the heavens are high and the earth firm, by the world of light is steadied and the world of Bliss beyond, who was the measure of the water in the firmament -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.6

यं क्रन्द॑सी॒ अव॑सा तस्तभा॒ने अ॒भ्यैक्षे॑तां॒ मन॑सा॒ रेज॑माने । यत्राधि॒ सूर॒ उदि॑तो वि॒भाति॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
yaṃ krandasī avasā tastabhāne abhy aikṣetām manasā rejamāne | yatrādhi sūra udito vibhāti kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

 

యం క్రన్ద॑సీ॒ అవ॑సా తస్తభా॒నే అ॒భ్యైక్షే॑తాం॒ మన॑సా॒ రేజ॑మానే ।

యత్రాధి॒ సూర॒ ఉది॑తో వి॒భాతి॒ కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“Whom heaven and earth established by his protection, and gaze at Him with their luminous mind, in whom the risen sun shines forth -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.7

आपो॑ ह॒ यद्बृ॑ह॒तीर्विश्व॒माय॒न्गर्भं॒ दधा॑ना ज॒नय॑न्तीर॒ग्निम् । ततो॑ दे॒वानां॒ सम॑वर्त॒तासु॒रेक॒: कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
āpo ha yad bṛhatīr viśvam āyan garbhaṃ dadhānā janayantīr agnim | tato devānāṃ sam avartatāsur ekaḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

ఆపో॑ హ॒ యద్బృ॑హ॒తీర్విశ్వ॒మాయ॒న్గర్భం॒ దధా॑నా జ॒నయ॑న్తీర॒గ్నిమ్ ।

తతో॑ దే॒వానాం॒ సమ॑వర్త॒తాసు॒రేక॒: కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“When the vast waters overspread the universe containing the germ and giving birth to Agni, then was produced the one breath of the gods -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.8

यश्चि॒दापो॑ महि॒ना प॒र्यप॑श्य॒द्दक्षं॒ दधा॑ना ज॒नय॑न्तीर्य॒ज्ञम् । यो दे॒वेष्वधि॑ दे॒व एक॒ आसी॒त्कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
yaś cid āpo mahinā paryapaśyad dakṣaṃ dadhānā janayantīr yajñam | yo deveṣv adhi deva eka āsīt kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

యశ్చి॒దాపో॑ మహి॒నా ప॒ర్యప॑శ్య॒ద్దక్షం॒ దధా॑నా జ॒నయ॑న్తీర్య॒జ్ఞమ్ ।

యో దే॒వేష్వధి॑ దే॒వ ఏక॒ ఆసీ॒త్కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“He who by his might beheld the waters all around containing the creative power and giving birth to sacrifice, he who among the gods was the one supreme god -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.9

मा नो॑ हिंसीज्जनि॒ता यः पृ॑थि॒व्या यो वा॒ दिवं॑ स॒त्यध॑र्मा ज॒जान॑ । यश्चा॒पश्च॒न्द्रा बृ॑ह॒तीर्ज॒जान॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम ॥
mā no hiṃsīj janitā yaḥ pṛthivyā yo vā divaṃ satyadharmā jajāna | yaś cāpaś candrā bṛhatīr jajāna kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

మా నో॑ హింసీజ్జని॒తా యః పృ॑థి॒వ్యా యో వా॒ దివం॑ స॒త్యధ॑ర్మా జ॒జాన॑ ।

యశ్చా॒పశ్చ॒న్ద్రా బృ॑హ॒తీర్జ॒జాన॒ కస్మై॑ దే॒వాయ॑ హ॒విషా॑ విధేమ ॥

English translation:

“May he do us no harm who is the parent of the earth, or who the Lord of Truth who brought forth the heaven, and who brought forth the delightful wide Waters -- let us offer worship with an oblation to the divine Ka.”

Rig Veda 10.121.10

प्रजा॑पते॒ न त्वदे॒तान्य॒न्यो विश्वा॑ जा॒तानि॒ परि॒ ता ब॑भूव । यत्का॑मास्ते जुहु॒मस्तन्नो॑ अस्तु व॒यं स्या॑म॒ पत॑यो रयी॒णाम् ॥
prajāpate na tvad etāny anyo viśvā jātāni pari tā babhūva | yatkāmās te juhumas tan no astu vayaṃ syāma patayo rayīṇām ||

ప్రజా॑పతే॒ న త్వదే॒తాన్య॒న్యో విశ్వా॑ జా॒తాని॒ పరి॒ తా బ॑భూవ ।

యత్కా॑మాస్తే జుహు॒మస్తన్నో॑ అస్తు వ॒యం స్యా॑మ॒ పత॑యో రయీ॒ణామ్ ॥

English translation:

“No other than you, Prajāpati, has given existence to all these beings; whatever prayer we offer to you, may that be granted to us, may we be the possessors of riches (delights).”
